I’m confident by now that people realize that skin cancer is a big problem. Everyday, more and more people take steps to try and protect themselves from the sun and harmful UV rays. One place people don’t often think about their exposure to the sun, is while driving in their car. While in your car, you may feel like your inside, but your still getting a whole lot of sun exposure. Though no one would think about putting on some sunscreen to go for a drive.
Researchers have even shown a direct link between the amount of time spent in your car, and skin cancer on the left side of your body. It would be interesting to see a comparative study done with people in London and skin cancer on the right side of the body, but that has yet to come.
They say that the average U.S. worker spends over 200 hours in their car per year just commuting to and from work. That’s probably more time than the average person spends on the beach, but there you think about sun protection all the time.
One way to protect yourself while in the car, is with a product that I’m a big fan of; Solar Gard. Its like a sunscreen for inside your car. Only its even better because you only have to apply it once.
Solar Gard is a nearly clear window treatment that when applied to your car not only helps prevent skin cancer but also helps keep your car cooler. Solar Guard is endorsed by the Skin Cancer Foundation, and can block up to 99% of the sun’s deadly UV rays. It was even featured just last month in a great article in the New York Times.
It seems like an easy choice to go and get Solar Gard put on your car. Not only are you protecting yourself from skin cancer, but your also keeping cool in the process. By keeping cool, you’ll be able to run your air conditioner less often. The amount of money you save by keeping the AC down should pay for the price of installation for Solar Gard which is only $260-$290 per car.
I’d like to state that Solar Gard had nothing to do with this post here on Living in Shade. I just think its a fantastic product in the fight against skin cancer and wanted to share it with like minded folk. If your interested in more information on the product you can go to their website.
